Think of your garden as an extension of your home, in reflecting not only your lifestyle but your personality as well, while accessorizing to please the eye.  Many gardeners think that a garden is not complete without ornamentation.

The same standards that apply to an interior room’s design, plays a role in the garden.  Whether your style is whimsical, romantic or classical, the key to success is a healthy combination of spontaneity and planning.

Remember, much like interior decorating, your objects in the garden can be moved. When providing balance and texture with accessories outdoors, you are functioning in much the same way as indoors.  If it doesn’t work in one area, move it.

Envision your garden with the many nooks and crannies as an opportunity for ornamental display whether it be colorful blooms, a bronze lion water fountain or a primitive buggy.  Decorative ornamentation can be skillfully interwoven with the blooms and greenery in your garden such as:

• Mulching around the base of a stone birdbath, water fountain, angelic stone sculpture or a sundial helps the object to stand out.
• Decorating around a protruding root of a tree with containers of colorful plants, attractive stones and with a hanging birdhouse over them.
• Flowering plants add bursts of color and can be moved easily to an area that needs some life.
• Try envisioning how your creation will change with the seasons such as Spring time with the new foliage growth and in the Fall season, how the objects will stand out more against the new Fall colors.  This could possibly give you new ideas as to the placement of your ornaments.
• A birdbath filled with rain water placed close by your garden bench so you can enjoy watching natures creatures enjoy your garden too.
• Wind chimes provide the musical announcement of the shifting breeze. Place on a shepherd’s pole with trees or shrubbery as a backdrop or hang from a tree limb but yet free enough to catch the breeze.
• Victorian gazing falls are available in a variety of colors and add a special sparkle of light in the garden tucked into your greenery.
• Leave your watch indoors and place an ancient style sundial in your garden so you will remember it’s time to sit and relax.
• If you have two windows of your home visible from your garden try placing a wall bird feeder between the windows and accent with flowers in a wall planter below it.
• Placing a relaxing garden fountain nestled within a backdrop of greenery and potted blooms of your favorite plants. Then surround it with yard seating and listen to the relaxing sound of water flowing in that water fountain for the most relaxing atmosphere you can imagine. Think about how your guests will find themselves totally relaxed when they visit.

4. Watching your creation change with the seasons
